Sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma with mixed osteoclast-like giant cells and chondroid differentiation

چکیده
The sarcomatoid variant of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare histologic variant comprising malignant spindle cells and typical HCC. The proportion of the spindle cell component varies; when the tumor fully consists of malignant spindle cells, it is difficult to distinguish from various primary sarcomas. The 2010 World Health Organization classification of gastrointestinal tract tumors classifies sarcomatoid HCC under the special HCC types with fibrolamellar carcinoma, scirrhous HCC, undifferentiated carcinoma, and lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma. Carcinosarcoma, which is synonymously used with sarcomatoid carcinoma, is separately described under “malignancies of mixed or uncertain origin” of the liver encompassing calcifying nested epithelial stromal tumor, combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma, hepatoblastoma, mixed epithelial-mesenchymal type, and malignant rhabdoid tumor. Here a recent case of sarcomatoid HCC is reported and relevant literature is reviewed.

Immunohistochemical evaluation of a sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma with osteoclastlike giant cells
BACKGROUND Malignant liver tumors with osteoclast-like giant cells are rare. A literature search showed 17 previously reported cases that included the following: (1) 8 undifferentiated hepatocellular carcinomas, (2) 5 sarcomatous tumors with osteoclast-like giant cells associated with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma or liver cystadenocarcinoma, and (3) 4 sarcomatoid tumors with osteoclast-like ...
متن کاملSarcomatoid cholangiocarcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells associated with hepatolithiasis: A case report
Cholangiocarcinoma (CC) is an adenocarcinoma arising from epithelial cells of varying locations within the biliary tree, and is the second most common primary liver tumor, accounting for approximately 10-15% of all hepatobiliary malignancies. This disease has a high prevalence in Southeast and Eastern Asia, including Korea; during the period 2003-2005, the age-standardized incidence rates of in...

Carcinomas with osteoclast-like giant cells (OGCs) are a rare type of malignant tumor that is histologically characterized by the presence of multinucleated giant cells that resemble osteoclasts mixed with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma cells. In this study, we report the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of a gastric sarcomatoid carcinoma with OGCs in a 37-year-old mal...

متن کاملHepatocellular Carcinoma with Osteoclast-Like Giant Cells: Report of the Seventh Case in the Literature
Hepatocellular carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells is extremely rare, and only six cases have been previously reported. Its histogenesis is at the moment controversial. The authors report a case of hepatocellular carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells found in a 74-year-old woman. The patient came with a dull pain in the right upper abdominal quadrants due to a liver neoplasm describ...
